Every important subject has its issues and colorectal cancer is no exception. In this case, these issues have until recently been exacerbated by the lack of understanding, fear and embarrassment surrounding colorectal cancer.

However, campaigning, particularly for a better deal for patients, has become increasingly effective in recent years, as those undertaking the campaigning have found a greater focus and a more receptive audience for their efforts. In the UK, two themes have dominated colorectal cancer campaigning - screening and access to treatments (or the lack of it) - and both have moved forward considerably as a result of it.
