Sixth Annual Presidency Conference 'Personalised Medicine and the Big Data Challenge'

Published on 06 April 2018 back to previous

Read the report from EAPM's Sixth Annual Presidency Conference held in Brussels at the end of last month.

Among many highlights were the presence of the Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, alongside several MEPs and DG Connect

As ever, the speakers were of the highest calibre and, with a total audience of more than 150 delegates throughout the day, there was a great deal of interaction as well as valuable networking opportunities.

We are already busily planning our next, larger Congress to be in held in Milan later this year. The programme is already online via this link and registration is open via this link.

Before that, the Commission’s Digital Day 2018 takes place in Brussels on 10 April.

A major highlight of the event will be a commitment on behalf of a coalition of willing Member States, alongside the Commission, to join genomic databanks on an EU level for more successful research collaborations. Key to this is a one-million European genomes target.

The day will showcase the singing of a Declaration by more than a dozen Member States to take the first steps to realising the goal of collecting, storing and sharing these genomes for health research.

The topic will feature in the upcoming Communication on Digital Transformation and the plan was a key focus of presentations and discussions with politicians and policy makers via the EAPM multi-stakeholder group.

Of course, the signing of the document is merely the first step in a long journey, but it certainly appears that the political will is there.

So, there are plenty of exciting things happening and, meanwhile, we do hope you enjoy reading the report.
